Infectious salmon anemia virus (ISAV) virulence
Etterevaluering
Forsøket er betydelig belastende.
Begrunnelse for etterevalueringen
Current knowledge is built upon results from Glesvær isolate, which makes it impossible to understand virulence situation in salmon in the field. By performing infection trial in salmon with nine ISAV field isolates, we have a better understanding of the differences in infection dynamics, disease signs and mortality of various ISAV isolates. The knowledge gained is of vital important in the understanding of ISAV pathogenesis.
Although we used fewer animal than we anticipated in the first trial, we were still able to achieve our main goal.
Animal welfare was an important part of the trial, as such we did all we could to apply increased daily observation of the fish, especially since our experience from other ISAV trials indicates that it is often challenging to identify sick fish before they are moribund.
