Translational control in synaptic plasticity
This study investigates the mechanisms that control protein synthesis and which underlie long-term changes in synaptic connectivity in the adult mammalian brain in vivo and in vitro. To understand failure of memory systems and loss of cognitive ability in diseases and aging, we aim to elucidate the underlying cellular mechanisms. The research involves use of mouse animal model in vivo in combination with use in vitro cell lines. Recording of mouse synaptic responses is done under normal surgical anesthesia throughout.
