Our overall goal is to study the fluctuating population dynamics of cyclic vole species in relation to their diet.

Animals will be trapped with Ugglan live traps, baited with an appropriate and sufficient amount of food. Trapping location will be at Evenstad and Evenstadlia in Stor-Elvdal, Hedmark, Norway. We will collect data on age, sex, reproductive status, weight, and collect faeces from the empty trap after releasing the animal. To be able to estimate the abundance accurately we will mark the individuals with PIT-tags. To have an estimate of abundance is crucial to be able to connect the diet data (and more) to the population cycles.

The scientific outcome of this experiment will be published in peer-reviewed scientific journals.

3R: High precision non-invasive methods for estimating density is not available to this date, and non-invasive diet collection as collecting hair for genetics will not deliver sufficient amount of detail.
