Genotyping is a routine method to identify different genotypes. In our research, we use various strains of zebrafish, including mutant strains. Proper genetic identification of these fish is essential.

The procedure consists of short-time removal of fish from water, collection of a finclip, and placing fish back into the water.

The procedure is meant to be a routine in our zebrafish facility. It will serve multiple projects where genotyping is necessary, such as: line renewal, line establishment, or mutant identification. Our research is of basic biology nature, we study mechanisms and functions of genes.

There is no alternative to avoid genotyping. The procedure itself produces some distress of fish, but does not leave negative consequences in welfare. Only the minimum essential number of fish is subjected to the procedure.

We apply for genotyping of up to 10000 zebrafish
