Heritability of lice eating in domesticated lumpfish was documented in Nofimas trial genetic studies of lumpfish in 2016. The results has given Nofima a reason to continued production of lumpfish families for genetic studies. During the 2016 experiment we gained the experience in running these kind of experiment and have functional methods and routines for counting salmon lice from gutcontent. The experience will result in reduced handling of the fish and we are confident that the experiments results will contribute to a more efficient lumpfish due to salmon lice eating. Domestification and selective breeding of lumpfish will also lead to a genetic line of lumpfish which are more adapted to aquaculture situation which again will lead to better cleanerfish welfare and use of less cleaner fish.
