The purpose of the experiment is to evaluate the toxicity of quicklime to marine organisms including a fish (lump sucker) and a decapod crustacean (hermit crab). The quicklime has been proposed as a treatment to control sea urchin populations and also as a potential treatment for sea lice. Providing information on the toxicity of quicklime to non target species from different taxonomic groups is essential prior to its use in the environment. The distress on the animals will be minimized by providing optimum seawater conditions for their exposure and the minimum numbers of individuals will be used per treatment
